1960's
and 1970's
This period in film history is know as the "reality" years.
War was popular subject, but the films didn't glamorize war as earlier
films had. movies like M*A*S*H and "The Deer Hunter" showed
the horror of war from the persepctive of the people who fought in the
Korean and Vietnam wars.
Social issues were also handled differently. Corruption, organized crome,
and family breakups were handled with a frank sense of honesty and reality.
Films like "The Godfather", "All the President's Men,"
"Midnight Cowboy," and "The French Connection" were
harder-edged than similar films of previous years. It seemed that no subject
was too graphic or controversial to be shown on the screen.
