A Nation's Proud Past
Thailand boasts a rich history spanning a period of more than 800 years. Thailand's early history is marked by the struggle to consolidate several different civilizations and ways of life into a single nation. Once united, the nation would prove that it could withstand the test of time. Thailand was able to maintain its unique identity as the "land of the free" even during toughest of times as imperialist powers tried to colonize Southeast Asia, as the warring nations of World War II used Thailand as their battleground, and as communist powers threatened Thailand's democratic ideals.
