Wilbur & Orville Wright (1867-1912 & 1871-1948)
It would be hard to describe how important to Wilber & Orville Wright (better known as the Wright brothers) were to modern day development. But to put it simply, if not for them, man would probably still be pretty much land bound. For you see, it was this pair of brothers that first achieved powered flight.
The US born inventors had the chance of growing up in a household that encouraged imaginative thinking, the Wright brothers persued their dream of being able to fly. In their early adulthood, they build model planes and gliders.
The Wright brothers both possessed great mechanical talent, they owned a bicycle repair shop and from there they made gliders to solve major aeronautical problems that they faced. On the 17th of December 1903, the Wright brothers achieved their goal. Becoming the first people ever to fly in glider powered by a gasoline motor. They refined their designs and travelled to Europe to promote their invention.
Today, thousands of people fly across the world everyday and hundreds of tons of goods are transported by plane from country to country. If not for the achievements of these two men, the flight would just had been a far-fetched dream.
