In 1977, George made film history by making "Star Wars", an amazing science fiction action-adventure. It was a blockbuster, with its groundbreaking special effects and unique space setting. But more importantly, it completely revolutionalized the film industry with its dazzling effects and unconventional storyline. Today "Star Wars" holds the title for being the largest selling motion picture in history as well as one of America's greatest movies of all time.
"Star Wars" spawned 3 sequels, "The Empire Strikes Back", "Return of the Jedi" and "Episode 1: The Phantom Menace", all of which where blockbusters themselves. Many will also remember the film "Raiders of the lost Ark" and the other Indiana Jones sequels, which George co-filmed with fellow producer/director Steven Spielberg all of which where critically acclaimed films.
Today, George Lucas owns his own production company, Lucasfilm and has started various other companies including LucasArts, Thx Theatre sound and Industrial Light Magic. George Lucas has finally achieved his dream of becoming one of the greatest film-makers of our time. Totally independent of production companies, George Lucas produces, directs and pays his films now, having full control of what he wants.
