SAURISCHIA
Pronounciation: "saw-RISS-kee-a"
Name meaning: "Lizard hip"
Period: late Triassic to late Cratecous
Living place: worldwide
The order Saurischia includes all the meat-eating dinosaurs
and the large, long-necked plant-eaters. It is divided into two orders:
- Theropoda (small and large
meat-eaters)
- Sauropodomorpha (medium
and large plant-eaters)
It is belived that these two suborders of Saurischia came from
different ancestors, because their distinguishing character, the "lizard
hip" was rather primitive.
