Drugs & Alcohol Teenagers are very much influenced in bad things. They are more influenced by drugs and alcohol, they like to impress their friends by showing them that they can do it. In more young people who are being friends in groups, they like to be more known as the most best somebody who does things best. This is the result of peer presure, because they want to belong somewhere. Alcohol Alcohol So many warnings tell you not to drink -- but do they really tell you why? Alcohol affects the body and mind in many different ways. When someone drinks a lot, you can actually see changes in him or her. Why? In your brain lies the cerebral cortex, which controls your use of reason and judgment. The nerves in these parts of the brain talk to each other by using impulses that travel through neurotransmitters. One of the most common neurotransmitters, gamma-aminobutyl acid (GABA) is inhibited when someone drinks alcohol. What this really means is that your brain cannot think as fast. And if this happens, someone could do things that they normally do not do because the alcohol affects the brain's logical thinking. Alcohol acts like a sedative, which means you feel soothing and relaxing effects. This could make someone feel more relaxed, and end up making fools of themselves and doing things that they later regret. Alcohol blocks the messages going to your brain, and alters your perceptions and emotions, vision, hearing, and coordination. Alcoholism is a disease -- just like diabetes or high blood pressure. But having the disease is nothing to be ashamed of. Many people have admitted they are alcoholics and are getting help through Alcoholics Anonymous. Drugs Sometimes is hard for the children to live under thedifficult circumstances, so others dicide to go outside and try to earn some money so that they could bring life at home and others do drugs just because they are easly accessible. Crack and cocaine these are the very powerful addicting drugs that when once started it becomes difficult to quit. Drugs may not be just complicated chemicals but they can also refer to substance which wre use in our daily lives. e.g.cafeine, aspirin, nicotine. The cafeine that we find in chocolates can mimic the effects of marijuana. .” She began to steal from her parents and cut classes to get high: “Feeling wonderful meant that I had to lie, cheat, and steal. It gave me an illusion that everything was good.” Her parents saw the warnings signs in her behavior and helped her get into recovery: “Now I’m in detox. I need to remember that I am capable of dealing with problems as they come up, and that I do not need to live my life in the cloud of ecstasy.” What can lie on the other side of a few hours of euphoria, are months, if not years, of lost memory, intelligence, and physical health. Recent NIDA monkey studies show that just four days of ecstasy use causes brain damage lasting six to seven years. Researchers have noticed that ecstasy users score lower on tests related to attention, memory, learning and general intelligence than people who do not use the drug. Serotonin–a key brain chemical regulating thought and memory–is cut in half for some chronic ecstasy users. Hundreds of ecstasy takers have died from hypothermia, heart stoppage, and stroke. Among the more bizarre effects of ecstasy use is bruxism, or teeth grinding. Some youth suck a baby pacifier at raves to relieve the grinding. One study showed 60 percent of ecstasy users had worn their teeth through the enamel. Other physical side-effects of ecstasy are eye spasms, vomiting, severe headaches, muscle rigidity, motor tics, illusions, and extreme dehydration. Doctors are now reporting acute liver damage due to ecstasy. Psychiatric problems can include depression and phobias. Excessive, fast talking can signal usage.
