Land

Land locates peoples' sense-of-being in the world. It is how people show wealth and power. Land is mainly used for residential purposes but it is also used for productive purposes. Land is needed to grow crops for both subsistance and commercial farming and is also required for stock-farming.

However, all over the world, there are various factors influencing the health of the soil. Some examples are:

  • urban development
  • afforestation
  • poor farming methods
  • deforestation
  • salinisation
  • loss of soil nutrients

Land is also used as a habitat by animals and plants. If the land were destroyed, the first link in the food chain would disappear and the rest would quickly follow.

In this section of our site, we will be focusing on erosion and deforestation, probably two of the most damaging factors concerning the land.
