The Kyoto Protocol

It came to the attention of the world authorities on greenhouse gas emissions that the level of greenhouse gas emissions was above acceptable levels. This was in 1990. The hole in the Ozone Layer only reinforced this belief. It was also believed that by the year 2050 all the ice caps in Antarctica would have melted unless the greenhouse gas emissions were decreased quite dramatically.
From a South African point of view, we are fully behind the Protocol (DEAT 2001) in July there were further discussions on the protocol in Bonn, Germany. Environmental Affairs and Tourism Minister Vali Moosa attended. The discussion was intended to try and get the U.S authorities to agree to the protocol becuase they represent almost 25% of all greenhouse gas emissions.
