Image is a picture made out of words. A poem may consist of a number of images. The pattern of images may be roughly called the imagery of the poem. Image as a general term covers the use of language to represent objects , actions , feelings , thoughts , ideas , states of mind and any experience.
An image need not necessarily be a mental picture ,it may be auditory . olfactory , gustatory , visual , or kinaesthetic .

EXAMPLE:
“In Memorium” by Tennyson.
Unloved , the beech will gather brown, ……
And many a rose carnation feed
With summer – spice the humming air.
