Noun

A noun is a word used as a name of a person place or thing.
Kinds:-
1. Common - A name given in common to every person or thing of a same class or kind.
2. Proper - A name of a particular person or place.
3. Collective - A name of a number or collection or persons or things.
4. Abstract - A name of a quality action or state considered apart from the object it belongs to.
E.g. 1. Akbar was a great king.
(Here, Akbar is a proper noun and king is a common noun.)
2. The flock of flamingos was a sight of great beauty.
(Here, flock is a common noun and beauty is an abstract noun.)

Adjective

An adjective is a word used to add something to a noun.
Kinds:-
1. Descriptive/quality - Shows the kind of quality or thing a person has.
E.g. He is a brave boy.
2. Quantity - Shows how much of a thing is meant.
E.g. There are many pots here.
3. Number - Shows how many persons or things are meant
E.g. There were twenty boys here.
4. Demonstrative - Points out which person or thing is meant.
E.g. This room is bare.
5. Interrogative - Used to ask questions
E.g. Where should we go today?

Pronoun
A pronoun is a word used instead of a noun. He, she, they, them, I, you, we and it are pronouns.
E.g. 1. John is absent because he is ill.
2. The books are where you left them.

Verb
A verb is a word used to express and action or state.
Kinds : -
1. Transitive - Sentences where the verb is done on the object i.e. passes onto the object from the subject.
E.g. The girl wrote a letter to her cousin.
2. Intransitive - Sentences where the verb does not pass onto the object.
E.g. The boy laughed loudly.

Adverb
An adverb is a word used to modify a verb, an adjective or another adverb.. Adverbs can depict manner, time, place, quantity (degree), frequency, affirmation or negation and reason.
E.g.1. He worked the sum quickly. (adverb of manner)
2. She hurt her knee yesterday. (adverb of time)
3. They agreed to meet me there. (adverb of place)
4. This flower is very beautiful. (adverb of degree or quantity)
5. I have told you twice.(adverb of frequency)
6. Surely you are mistaken (adverb of affirmation or negation)
7. He therefore left school. (adverb of reason)


Preposition
A preposition is a word used with a noun or a pronoun to show how the person or thing denoted by the noun or pronoun stands in relation to something else.

Kinds : - 1. Simple prepositions
2. Compound prepositions
3. Phrase prepositions

E.g. 1.There is a cow in the garden.
2. A fair little girl sat under a tree.

Conjunction
A conjunction is a word used to join two words or sentences.
E.g. 1. Ram and Hari are cousins.
2. I ran fast, but missed the train.

Interjection
An interjection is a word which expresses sudden feeling.
E.g. 1. Hurrah! we have won the game.
2. Alas! he is dead.
