Qing Emperor Xuantong (Aixinjueluo Puyi)
Emperor Xuantong is Emperor Guangxu's nephew. He was born in 32nd year of Emperor Guangxu's reign (1906 AD), died in 1967.
Before Emperess Dowager's death, she discussed with ministers about who should be selected as the new emperor. According to her wish, Puyi who was only 3 years old would be the new emperor.
Puyi succeeded imperial throne at age of 3 with prince regent's help. At that time, the court was disordered. On September 10th 1911, the Wuchang uprising broke out, revolutions rose from all directories. Emperess Dowager Longyu had no choice but to agree to the formation a republic. On February 2nd 1912, Emperor Xuantong abdicated. And Qing Dynasty ended. Also, the feudalistic period ended.
After Emperor Xuantong's abdication, he still lived in the Forbidden City as an abdicated emperor. In 1924, he was driven out of the Forbidden City. One year later, the Forbidden City opened to the public as a museum.
