Emperor Taichang was born in 18th year of Emperor Wanli's reign (Year 1590), died in 48th year of Emperor Wanli's reign (Year 1620).
He was weak in his child hood. A short time after his enthronement, he began to build his own mausoleum. Several days later, he felt ill. An official named Li Kezhuo offered some red pills. He died in a few minutes after taking the pills. This was "case of red pillsĦħ which shocked the whole nation at that time.
Because his reign lasted for only one month, he was popularly called one-month-emperor.
