Ming Emperor Jiajing (Zhu Houzong)

Emperor Jiajing was Emperor Zhengde's younger cousin. He was born in 2rd year of Emperor Zhengde's reign (1507 AD), and died in 45th year of his reign (1566 AD). Because the Emperor Zhengde had no child and blood brother, so after his death, his throne was left to his cousin Zhu Houzong.

Emperor Zhu Houzong was different from his cousin Emperor Zhengde: he liked peace. He embraced Taoism (a religion in China), wanted medicine of longevity. Late of his reign, he paid no attention to routine affairs for 20 years.

During his reign, he oversaw a building boom. The eastern and the western side part of the Forbidden City were built during his reign.
