Emperor Daoguang is Emperor Jiaqing's eldest son. He was born in 47th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1782 AD), and died in 30th year of his reign (1850 AD).

His reign was the period which westerners invaded China. He first wanted to exterminate westerners, but because the failure of the war, he had to make peace with westerners. Because of corruption of the court, Qing Dynasty had to cede territory and compensate, and many places became westerners' settlement.

&Because of the reparations, the treasury had little money in it. Emperor Daoguang took constrictive policy with economy, nay was very frugal in the palace.

Though Emperor Daoguang tried his best to redeem declining tendency, because the court closed the country to international exchange the declining tendency could not be redeemed. Qing Dynasty came closer and closer to the perdition.
