  About 70 years ago, writing brush was still the most popular tool of writing Chinese characters. Nowadays, most Chinese people use pens and pensils. However, writing brush is still used to create calligraphy works.

  The correct way of holding a writing brush is shown in this image:

  There are two ways of starting and ending a stroke: "Hiding" and "Showing", which depends on how the tip of the brush goes.  If you pressed harder or lighter, the stroke would be accordingly wider or narrower.
