Chinese Defense of Kai-fung Fu

Dear Journal,
     Our hordes were defeated today in trying to attack the Chinese town of Kai-fung Fu. We were galloping at top speed one second and suddenly scalding fires flew out at us and frightened our horses back. Adding to the mysterious fire, I heard loud booms everywhere. I turned sideways and saw men being exploded by what the Chinese had thrown. We had no choice but to retreat. If this had been a simple man to man battle, we would've slaughtered those Chinese easily because of our superior horseback riding. But now we must learn how to acquire their new deadly weapon.
