Sputum testing is the most reliable, cost effective test available. Blood testing X-Rays of the chest
  •  Prevention:

All newborn babies must be immunised to protect them from TB germs.

The BCG injection prevents TB germs from growing in their bodies. It protects babies from getting TB meningitis.

When an adult in a household gets TB then all children under 5 years must be given preventive treatment.

Although the vaccine does not offer complete protection, it does afford protection to about 60% of the cases.

Immigrants must be screened on arrival in the country and if TB is diagnosed treatment must be given.

NEVER drink unpasteurised milk. You can become infected with TB by drinking milk from infected cows.
