What
does spread the virus?

Sexual intercourse is the most commyon
way of spreading the virus as it survives in vaginal fluids and in
sperm.

Babies born to HIV mothers can be
infected at birth or through breastfeeding.

Infected blood spreads the disease -
never share blades, razors or toothbrushes.

Drug addicts sharing needles spread the
disease.

Blood transfusions can also spread the
disease even though all possible precautions are taken to prevent this
happening.
What
does NOT spread the virus?

You cannot be infected with HIV
by sharing a house, desk, chair, office, car, taxi, locker, telephone,
cup, fork, plate, mug, toilet, towel, sheets or clothes with someone
who is infected.

You cannot be affected by sneezing or
coughing.

You cannot be infected with HIV by
sharing food, sharing a bath, sharing a swimming pool or shaking hands
with someone who is infected.

If you hug or touch someone with HIV,
you cannot get infected

Kissing does not spread HIV and AIDS.

You cannot be infected with HIV by
being bitten by a mosquito, bed bug, tick or flea that has bitten a
person with HIV.
How
to deal with injuries:

Regard everybody as if they are infected with HIV.

Attend to your own injuries wherever possible.

Always wear protective gloves if you deal with open
wounds.
How can you protect yourself

Never have unprotected
sex !
