Kristy and Lyndi

This web site began in 1999 when Lyndi and Kristy created a web page about TB.
We were in Grade 7 at  Greenfield Girls' Primary School, which is situated in Kenilworth, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa.

I am in grade 9 at Westerford High School in Cape Town South Africa.

Because of all the work that I had put into the original site and because I felt that this site will be of great educational value I have carried on working on the TB site.

It was to be submitted last year but the International partner that I had let us down and so this year I formed a new team.
I have learnt one thing from Thinkquest. The choosing of a team is vital to the success of the entry. My team have worked well together this year. I have had the chance to teach Buyiswa about computers and she in turn has taught me about her life. Buyiswa has overcome many obstacles to be able to work with us and we thank her for her dedication and valuable input.

I would like to say a special thank you to our coaches, Mrs Liz Barrett and Mr Rob Bernstein for their encouragement and for their ability of keeping us focussed and working.

I am in  Grade 8 and am at Westerford High School. I think that this site will help a lot of people suffering with TB and HIV/AIDS. I have learnt many skills from participating in this competition. It has made me aware that we have a huge problem with both of these diseases and that we have to support and educate people to live positively with these diseases.

Buyiswa

I am in Grade 11 at Uxolo High. I am learning computers from my coach Mrs Barrett and from Lyndi who asked me to be on her team. I want to help my community be aware of the problems of TB and HIV. We must support our people to overcome TB. DOTS is the way to do this. We must educate the youth about HIV and we must give the same support to HIV positive people as we give to those with TB. They also can still live a full life with our help and support. We must unite and care for the AIDS orphans in this land of ours.
Buyiswa's first encounter with a computer happened in June 2001 at Greenfield Girls' Primary. Lyndi met with her and Daniswa on Saturdays to give them a chance to learn about computers.

Since then Buyiswa and  her sister, Daniswa, have been using the computers at The Institute Of Race Relations in Mowbray to complete their work. We would like to thank Derek Joubert for making this facility available to us.
