Table Mountain is probably one
of the most famous landmarks in the world.
This great flat-topped mountain is 3566 feet high and measures
nearly 3 km from end to end. When
the weather is good, its shape can be seen 200km out to sea!!
When a layer of clouds blow over the top of the mountain, people
say that that it is the table cloth being laid on the mountain!
The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular and there are
two ways in which you can reach the top.
You can either walk up the slopes of the mountain, or you can take
the cable car. A new cable
car, that holds 60 people, has recently been installed.
It has a revolving floor and travels from the lower cable car
station right to the top, where you will find 2 restaurants and souvenir
shops. Along the paths of
Table Mountain, there is a variety of wildlife and beautiful and
interesting indigenous plants, especially fynbos which is unique to South
Africa The cable car
operates every day, weather permitting, and it is advisable to pre-book
your trip, as the queues can be very long, especially in the summer
months.
