Welcome to a ThinkQuest
project by Roman Leifer and Julian Tam.
Welcome to International Human Rights: The Pursuit of
an Ideal. Our purpose is not to simply advocate international
human rights, but rather, to present an objective view
of the topic. Human rights originated in ancient Babylonia,
and since the inception of the concept, they have been
shaped, debated and fought for through the millennia.
Our site has been designed to provide relevant and useful
information for all users. However, one should keep in
mind that the material has been written with high school
students in mind. Teachers are encouraged to use are site
as an introduction to educating their classes on the topic
of human rights. One can find fun and educational activities
in the Your Turn section.
Naturally, everyone is more than welcome to try out the
activities too.
We think it would be a good idea to explain the meaning of our logo. The heart represents the concept of the world existing in harmony, with human rights implemented and respected everywhere. The fact that it is torn into pieces symbolizes the conflicts that have taken place over time. Finally, the logo is two coloured because this represents the contrasting views of different people on the subject of human rights.
