The White Rhino
The white rhino was saved from extinction by the conservationists
of Natal. After the elephant, the rhino is the second largest
mammal that lives on land. The male rhino is about one hundred
and eighty three at the shoulder and can weigh up to three
and a half tonnes. The two horns that are situated on its
head are the two most prized possessions that a rhino carries,
and they are also the two main features a poacher would love
to have.
The front horn is flattened on its front edge and is about
one hundred and fifty two centimeters long. The second horn
is much shorter and measures at a length of about thirty and
a half centimeters.
The female rhino is smaller than the male,
but it has longer horns. The calves that she gives birth to
will weigh forty kilograms and the gestation period is sixteen
months.
The Black Rhino
The black rhino is basically the same as the white rhino.
