Nightlife

Cape Towns nightlife is as diverse as
its culture. Feel the real pulse of the city at the
nightclubs, jam-packed with many people of different races and
cultures. A choice of entertainment includes a night at the
ballet, theatre, opera or even a rock concert.

With the exception
of horse racing, gambling in south Africa used to be confined to
casinos located in homelands or independent
states established in the late 1970s by the previous
nationalist government. With the dissolution of the
homelands, there were no more borders to cross and in effect,
these casinos found themselves inside South Africa.

The first casino
licenses were issued for Caledon casino, hotel and spa, which
opened in October 2000 and Sun Internationals GrandWest
casino in Cape Town, which opened in December 2000.
GrandWest is the
biggest project in South Africa after Sun City and features 1750
slot machines and 66 tables, 1000 cinema seats and a film studio
with a movieworld theme park, an ice rink and 15 shops. Two
hotels, a village market and a short rail link to the V&A
Waterfront are also on the cards. In true, Sun
International style, there are even supervised activities to keep
the children entertained while adults go and try their luck at
the casino.
