Profile:
Ian has joined his Uncle Gary (Kelly) in the Leeds defence as one of the new style of 'wing-backs'. After a steady start to his career at Elland Road where he played for the Republic of Ireland more than his club, Ian went on to become a key member of David O'Leary's side by the 1999/2000 season.
His performances ahead of David Robertson and Danny Granville were so impressive and consistent that Granville was allowed to leave for Manchester City in October 1999. Ian possesses a superb left foot that is capable of bagging goals from open play and free-kicks. This natural talent makes up for a slight lack of pace and ensures he is one of the favourites with the Elland Road crowd.
