Safety After Shooting

  • When finished shooting all of your arrows, step back from the line of fire.
  • Never leave your bow on the ground while retrieving your arrows. Someone could trip over a bow left on the ground or floor..
  • Cross the line of fire to retrieve your arrows only when given a signal to do so.
  • While walking to the target to retrieve your arrows be sure to get any arrows that landed short of the target as soon as possible. If your arrow is embedded in the grass pull the arrow out forward to avoid damage to the fletching.
  • Always remember to walk instead of running to the target to retrieve your arrows.
  • When pulling your arrows from the target, be sure there is no one behind you. It could really hurt being poked in the chest by the nock of an arrow. when retrieving place one hand flat on the target and the other on the arrow shaft as close to the target as possible. To prevent the arrow from bending remove the arrow by twisting the arrow back and forth.
  • You should be extremely careful handling arrows because they are sharp. If possible always carry them in a quiver, or if in your hand, with the tips in the palm of your hand.
