Fitness and Nutrition for the Archer

Fitness and nutrition play an important part of an archers overall fitness plan. In order to become a better archer, you not only have to have the right equipment and accessories, you need to get your "archery muscles" toned and strengthened. Archery competition is very physically and mentally demanding and a basic conditioning program prior to shooting is recommended.

Since archery is mostly an upper-body sport, conditioning is recommended for the muscles of the hands, arms, neck, back, and abdominals. This makes archery an excellent sport for disabled athletes who have retained their upper body dexterity. The archery athlete must combine strength, flexibility and cardiovascular training into the fitness plan.

Archery fitness consists of three main factors:

Flexibility

Strength

Diet
