A Transformer is a static device that is mainly designed to transform one alternating voltage level to another. It is an indispensable component in many energy conversion system. It is widely used in both power system system and electronics. In general, it can be said that windings carry only alternating current and work on the principle of alternating flux.
In a power supply system, transformers are used at the generating stations to step up the voltage to desired values for transmissions. At the receiving end of the transmission system, the voltage is stepped down to one that is suitable for utilization in factories and homes.
This a picture of a small Generator. This is the piece of equipment that produce electricity. Normally the bigger version is linked to a turbine and an electrical transformer for maximum efficiency.
