Straightening
the Teeth
A metal alloy
of nickel and titanium called nitinol is used in teeth braces.
Nitinol was originally developed for space equipment such as antennae.
As nitinol has the ability to return to its original shape after bending,
so the antennae is compacted for launch to reduce space needed to store
the equipment.
On Earth, nitinol allows braces to exert continuous pull on teeth, this
reduce the number of brace changes needed as the teeth are pulled into
shape.
