Black Uakari


Weight:
The black uakari weighs about 4 kg (8.8 lb). 

Habitat:
The black uakari is found in or near periodically flooded forests up to 500 m (1650') in altitude. The golden-backed uakari (C. m. ouakari) apparently requires substantial areas of undamaged riverine forests which are periodically flooded (igapo) as well as adjacent unflooded (terra firme) forest (Barnett & Celeste da Cunha 1991). 

Birth Season:
May to October (captives in the Northern Hemisphere). 

Diet:
Fruit probably comprises the major portion of the black uakari's diet. 

Behavior:
Uakaris are diurnal. 

Social Organization:
The black uakari occurs in troops of up to 50 individuals. Troops apparently include more than 1 adult male.
