Opium
is latex obtained from the incision of unripe
fruits of various species of papoula. The
drug had its use spread especially in China,
where there are specific places to consume
it, and was even a declared reason for war:
the Opium War between China and England in
1840. This drug is consumed after being heated
up, through inhalation, provoking euphoria
and confusing dreams. Morphine and heroin
derive from opium. It creates an analgesic
effect. The abstinence syndrome happens when

with no warning, causing enormous physical
and psychological alterations. The tolerance
means that the people addicted to these drugs
need higher quantities of drugs as the time
goes by, in order to obtain the same effect
as the times before. In
the first four hours, the abstinence syndrome
of the person addicted to opium produces two
alterations or symptoms; after eight hours,
eight alterations occur; after twelve hours,
fourteen alterations occur; between eighteen
and twenty-four hours, twenty-five alterations
occur; between twenty-four and thirty-six
hours, thirty-four alterations occur. These
alterations include: muscles trembling, heat
and cold flashes, bone and muscular pain,
vomiting, fever, diarrhea, hypoglycemia, and
there is still the chance of this person very
having very serious brain complication, meningitis,
blindness, coma. Even after abandoning the
drug, this person, for the next seven or eight
months, will still present the following effects:
slow heart rate, low blood pressure, low body
temperature, a increase of the adrenaline
in the blood, great sensitivity towards stress
and the increase of depressive symptom, that
can make this person go back to this drug.
It can induce an abortion or a pre-mature
labor, not mention that it intoxicates the
baby, frequently provoking its death, and
if it survives, it will present the abstinence
syndrome. |
