Mini-volleyball is a specially developed version of the game to take into account both the smaller hands of younger players and the need for a lower net. Although primarily a game for nine to thirteen year olds,
there is no reason why other age groups cannot learn to play.
The net height for this age group is 2.10m, which will still enable them to smash and serve with correct technique and allow the back court skills to develop. The court is reduced in size to 9m long and 5m wide. On
this smaller court there are only three players on each side. The ball is smaller, with a 62cm diameter instead of the normal 65-67cm.
The National Associations will be able to supply teachers with special rule and guide books for mini-volleyball.
Details:
- Number of players: 3 v 3.
- A player must again pass to all three players in his side.
- This can be a conditioned game, e.g. the first play must be a dig, or the players must smash on the third play.
- Each player has double the number of ball contacts of the full 6 v 6 game.
- The smaller court helps develop movement, increasing the length of rallies and thus making for a more exciting game.
- Two of the three are 'net' players; the third is the main defence/reception player.
