Coaching Philosophy

As a coach you must know what coaches should do - or at least you know what you should do when being a coach. But have you stopped to think carefully why you act as you do, and have you asked yourself what you really want?

Maybe you would say that as a coach you are helping others to take part in sport and to improve their performance. However, many other people could make the same claim. For example: parents, teachers, officials, equipment suppliers, sponsors. So here is the question: what makes you so different? Many coaches do not recognize the importance of their roles and their effect upon the team members. Being a successful volleyball coach needs time and effort. Coaching an interscholastic team is not a responsibility to be taken lightly. Coaches are expected to prepare in advance, to learn the basic skills of the game, and to care for the personal growth of each player regardless of the individual's skill or ability. So, coaches should think more carefully about developing their coaching philosophy before meeting with the players.

In many people's mind, coaching is only instructing or teaching or training, but this is not true, you should remember that it is all three and more!

Coaching = Instruction + Teaching +Training + more...

Since understanding this will help you to appreciate the role you have to play more fully, we would discuss with you the thre important things. But please remember: when raising your own standard of performance as a coach, you are improving the standard of your performers.

Okay, let us take a closer look at what we mean by instructing, teaching, training and coaching.
