Pincess WenCheng Goes to Tibet

Because of Tang Taizong's friendly policy regarding foreigners, many merchants from all many places came to do business as well as study. In the year of 634, SongZanGanBu, the young king of TuFan dispatched some officials to the court and Tang Taizong also sent a delegation to TuFan on a returning trip. SongZanGanBu was determined to build up a friendly relationship with the Tang Dynasty. Afterwards, Song made several proposals, which Tang Taizong finally approved.

In the year 641, Tang Taizong selected a beautiful and tender girl of his from the royal family and named her Princess WenCheng. Li Daozong, a brother of Tang Taizong escorted her to TuFan. Princess WenCheng passed Baoji, ShaJiang, the Valley of TongTianhe and finally arrived in BaiHai(now the Elin Lake of QingHai) and attended the wedding together with SongSanGanBu from LuoXie(now Tibet).

In order to make the trip to Tibet safe, SongZanGanBu brought with him some workers from the Han Dynasty back to LuoXie. On the way those workers taught TuFan people how to mend roads and built stations. SongZanGanBu built the famous palace of BuDaLa according to the Tang style especially for the Princess of WenCheng. People in LuoXie were just like celebrating some festival on the day that the couple entered the city. Princess WenCheng made a lot of proposals on how to improve work in administering TuFan. The Tang Dynasty agreed on some of the proposals by SongZanGanBu and dispathed a lot of blacksmith, weavers, architectures, tool makers, and paper makers to develop economy in TuFan. SongZanGanBu build DaZhaoSi and XiaoZhaosi to offer some statues brought from Tang in worship expressly for the Princess of WenCheng after learning that she believed in Buddhism.

SongZanGanBu all the time nourished a kind attitude towards the Tang Dynasty. For that, Tang Taizong gave him royal titles. In the year 650, SongZanGanBu passed away. Tang Taizong was very remorseful and send officials to TuFan for consolation expressly. Princess WenCheng passed away in the year 680, she totally worked for 30 years for the enterprise of the friendly relationship between the Tang and Tibet. TuFan people commemorate Princess WenCheng's birthday and the day of her entry to Tibet. They haven been worshiping the statues of both SongZanGanBu the Princess WenCheng in DaZhaoSi and XiaoZhaoSi until now.
