- Yixing was the founder of the scientific method that measured Earth's meridian.

- Wang Xiaotong's mathematical book, Ji Gu Xuan Jing gave world's first method of finding the roots of a cubic function. This achievement was earlier than the Arabs by by 300 years and earlier than the Europeans by 600 years.
