After the Sino-Japanese war, some Chinese liberal intellectuals began to accept western bourgeois thought, and began to implement capitalism in China. The liberal officials represented by Kan Youwei and Liang Qichao sent in requests repeatedly to Guangxu Emperor for political reform. On June 11,1898, emperor Guangxu promulgated "Edict for National Stabilization" to start a series of reform known as "Reform of Wuxu". The reform carried out in political, economic, mi litary affairs was helpful for the capitalist development in China. But because these reforms were not too beneficial to the feudal landlords and bureaucrats, political reform was much delayed at the beginning. It was attacked by the conservative forces headed by Ci Xi the Dmpress Dowager. Because of these reliations against the reform, the reform was forced to stop only after 103 days. The major officials who were involved in the political reform had been killed and emperor Guangxu was imprisoned. The reform was also called " the reform of 100 days ".
