Wang Mang Changes Laws

Wang Mang was the nephew of the Empress during the reins of Emperor Yuan. Although he was a man of insight, he had ambitions beyond reason. As a relative of the empress, he butted into politics. Because of his talent, he was a popular man and was well respected. Taking this chance, he upsurped the throne and became emperor. He named his new dynasty Xin. He tried to solve the problems left over from the West Han by changing laws to solve problems centered on land and slavery. Although his intention was good, he failed and Xin ended.
