Pupils admitted to Vera School

Vera School makes porvision for learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder(ASD). This spectrum indicates that, despite the existence of common core features, different subgroups of learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder present with their own pattern of symptoms. The school admits the following sub-groups:

Autistic Disorder

Asperger’s DisorderPervasive Developmental Disorder (Not Otherwise Specified) PDD (NOS).

Criteria as set out in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders(DSM IV, 1995) are used to establish whether a learner is on the spectrum.

Admission to Vera School

Potential learners must be referred to Vera School by a medical center eg. the Developemental Clinic at Red Cross Children’s Hospital or by a professional person eg. a psychiatrist, paediatrician, general practitioner, psychologist, occupational therapist or social worker.
