For many centuries, people have dreamed of space stations as outposts in orbit. The International Space Station is the largest and most complex space production ever endeavored by mankind. It is a cooperative venture of many different countries all over the world and a global partnership of 16 different countries: United States, Russia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Sweden, United Kingdom, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The International Space Station is the biggest achievement of the 21st century. The station has numerous parts. Different parts of the station are being built all over the world. These pieces are built on Earth, loaded on to a space shuttle or rocket, and then assembled in space by astronauts of all nationalities. The building of such a large and complex structure always raises issues about its advantages and disadvantages. |
