So far, no one is sure about the underlying nature of schizophrenia because it is an extremely complex disorder of the human brain. Its fundamental mechanisms, both biological and environmental, are still a topic to be studied in detail and are likely to take many years to fully understand. However, researchers have identified several possible factors that might have caused schizophrenia and discovered various methods to treat it. The following three sections deal with the etiology, diagnosis, and treatments of schizophrenia.
