Running
A part from the glorious events that took place during the royal jubilee festival, running was considered to be one of the dominant sports in the Egyptian history.
There were many representations of running infantry men left over from the Amarna epoch (XVIIIth dynasty) , who were portrayed in texts as phrr (runners). Moreover in private life runners worked as escorts for prominent men accompanying them as their running body guards; whereas the senior officials traveled in their chariots. Also soldiers were granted the honorary title that of a "swift runner", furthermore texts sometimes referred to this honor as it was the result of a contest within this context we would be justified, to actually think that they practiced these contests more than mere evidence could prove.
Finally we might conclude from the Egyptian messengers' information that the Egyptian people skillfully practiced running and they were generally specialized in it.
Jumping
Despite the importance of Jumping in Modern times (nowadays) with its numerous; kinds; long jump, high-jump and triple jump and also people's vault, jumping as a sport was seldomly practiced in ancient Egypt.
Two Jumping ancient representations following the same pattern, Both were discovered at Saqqara graves, one of the vizier Ptahhotep dating from the end of the Vth dynasty and the other at the grave site of his colleague Mereruka approximately fifty years later, they were found particularly in the context of a series of children's games.
The artist realized that the boys who were portrayed in the relief one above the other looking in the same direction should be imagined as a pair facing one another and forming a living hurdle over which the third boy will jump.
Mereruka's tomb showed a series of three running jumpers, whereas the Ptahhotep tomb showed only one jumper who was prepared to spring, also to the right of this jumper stood a pair of boys with their arms about each other neck.
