

sphinx it was originally a knoll orock stands on the way while
building the complex the sculptor fashioned it into a recumbent lion with head
and features of chephren. (the lion was the symbol of power)
sphinx was regarded as a guardian of the necropolis. in the ancient
inscriptions, they depicted two recumbent lions of the gates of the underworld

the statue is made out of limestone. the damage in parts of the face and chin s
still clear. between the paws stand the slab granite of tuthmosis IV that named
(the dream slab) which recorded a dream of tuthmosis IV and sphinx promised him
the crawn of egypt if he would clear away the sand, which cover the body. when
tuthmosis IV ascended the throne of Egypt , he cleared away the sand and erected
this slab
the length of this clossus is about 70 m, and the maximum hight is about 20m
