    The main types of animals that can be found in the wild in Europe are:-

Bats ~ have extremely sensitive ears.

Beavers ~ live in riverbank homes called Beaver Lodges.

Otters ~ live in groups called holts.

Squirrels ~ have a great memory because they can remember every single stock of nuts they have buried.

Rabbits ~ their babies are born blind and without fur.

Hares ~ live above ground and can run very fast.

Badgers ~ live in burrows otherwise known as setts.

Foxes ~ are famous for their slyness and cunning.

Wolves ~ are the largest of the wild dogs.

Bears ~ bears, along with humans, are the only animals that walk on the soles of their feet.

Mice ~ are part of the rodent family.

Rats ~ get their name from the German "ratz".

Voles ~ are rodents, often called Water Rats.

Wild Boar ~ Live in temperate woodland.

Lemmings ~ There are 9 species of these creatures.

Pygmy Shrews ~ Are the smallest mammal in Europe.

Seals ~ all have ears, but only fur seals and sea lions have ear flaps.

Hedgehogs ~ curl up in a ball when they are in danger.

Wild Cats ~ are larger and fiercer than domestic cats.

Reindeer ~ most female deer don't have antlers, but female reindeers and caribou do.

Mountain Goats ~ have hollow soles which act as suction pads when they are climbing rocks.

Chamois ~ live in the Alps and can survive in cold climates.

Ferrets ~ are a partially tamed version of polecats, who are used to catch rabbits.

Stoats ~ has a brown summer and white winter coat that changes for camouflage purposes.

Weasels ~ are related to stoats and ferrets.

Pine martins ~ are native European mammals.

Shrews ~ one shrew, the Etruscan shrew, is only 3 cm long.

Deer ~ their antlers are made of bone, not horn, which drop off and grow again every year.

Moles ~ They burrow under meadows and pastures.

 

    Most of these mammals have thick fur or skin and are able to  in survive fairly harsh climates. Most of them hibernate during the cold winter months.
