In recent years, ouija boards have resurfaced with a renewal of interest in spiritualism. Ouija boards have basically one purpose: to facilitate the communication with the spirit world. Essentially, the board itself does not have any power. Instead, it acts as an instrument that allows the user to focus his/her own energy for the task at hand.

Wicca is a religion that is rooted in nature-worship. In terms of the modern-day established religions, Wicca has many different sects (such as Christianity, which is branched into Catholicism, Methodist, Baptist, etc.) and would be referred to as a polytheistic religion.

In general, they believe in a balance between male and female deities, however in some sects, greater emphasis is placed on Goddess worship. Their main celebrations consist of: the Winter Solstice (or Yule), Imbolc, the Vernal Equinox, Beltaine, the Summer Solstice (Midsummer), Lughnasadh, the Autumnal Equinox, and Samhain.

Wiccans often work in covens and some practice magick, and the covens' collective knowledge is stored in a book termed the "Book of Shadows." (It is important to note that though the term pagan is often associated with Wicca, all pagans are not wiccans; also, those people who refer to themselves as "new-agers" are not necessarily Wiccans.)

Despite popular notions, there is no such thing as black magick or white magick. As a popular saying goes, it depends solely on the wielder's intentions. Some other common misconceptions are that: Wiccans worship Satan (in fact, the concept of the Christian devil does not exist in Wicca, or for that matter, most other religions), Wiccans participate in blood sacrifice (a highly mistaken belief), they always wear black (not true; however, the color black does have some significance: it is seen as the color most able to attract energy), and that male witches are called warlocks (the word warlock comes from an old Scottish term teaming "traitor" or "oath-breaker"; the term witch applies to both males and females).
