What is Hairy cell leukemia
It is an uncommon sight of cancerous or diseased cells that are spreading in the blood-forming tissues.
Causes of Hairy cell leukemia
The cause of hairy cells leukemia is unknown. Hairy cell leukemia is characterized by a reduction in all types of blood cells: the white blood cells, red blood cells and the platelets. Hairy cells are seen in the blood and bone marrow. Liver enlargement is common. Affected with this leukemia have higher risk of getting infected with other disease and infection due to the low body resistance. Risk of bleeding is also increased because of the low platelets count. Men are affected 5 times more than women. The range of age of people affected is about 55 years old. Out of 100,000 people only 4 will be affected.
There is no known prevention.
