About the Authors:

Kauthar

I am a 17 year old Gr. 11 learner at Pinelands High School (PHS) in Cape Town South Africa.  I am on the executive committee of the PHS Film Society and a member of the PHS Senior Marimba Band.

When I do have free time, which is very rare, I love listening to my ever-growing CD collection and watching movies.  My all time favourite movies include The Matrix, Shrek and the classic Star Wars trilogy.

As I attend school with pupils from a diverse and cultural background, I often find myself explaining the intricacies of my religion, Islam, to my friends and classmates. This combined with my passion for website design has led me in combination with my teammates, Bianca Obery and Galeemah Adams, to create a website on Kramats of the Western Cape.

Bianca

I am in Grade 11 at PHS and am also a member of the school's Film Society.  I decided to join the team in making this website as I am very interested in learning about other culture and religions. Working on this project has been a huge learning curve for me, as I have gained tremendous insight into an aspect of the Muslim faith and culture and some of the practices associated with Islam when visiting these shrines. 

Also, Computer Studies is not one of my subjects. For this reason, joining this team was a means by which I could learn about web design, layout, DTP etc. In essence, I have killed two birds with one stone; learning about another religions as well as web design!!

Galeemah

I attend PHS and am in Grade 11. My reason for joining this team was mainly to learn more about the world of computer technology, the internet and web design as I do not have a computer, nor access to the internet at home. As I also am not registered for Computer Studies, the opportunity for getting access to the school's Computer Lab is very small and for these reasons decided to join the team. My learning has thus centred around increasing my knowledge of computers.
