WHY DON'T WE LIVE FOREVER?

Have you ever wondered if we can live for eternity?

We live and die. Between the two, we age. Aging is the gradual decline of in the body structure and function. Eventually, the body’s inability to ward off diseases result in death. In fact, human are programmed to die! Cells reproduce by dividing , and each type of cell undergo doublings. The amount of doubling decreases as you grow. And research has shown that even cells taken from old are transplanted to a young of the same species, the older cells still die at the predestinated time. As the body age, there is an increase in the ‘wear and tear’ pigment, and we show the outward signs of aging - our skin wrinkles and becomes less elastic, our hair grays and thins, the body is less resistant to infection, the sense organ become less sensitive. Worse, even brain cells, which does not reproduce, will lose function with age. In the scientific aspect, we age and die. However, we also grow wiser with age and become more experienced. It’s never too old to laugh, or make new friends and to enjoy the fruits of success during youth.

Do you know?
  1. The only multi cellular animals that don’t die from aging process are
    tortoises and sharks.
  2. The only cells to divide indefinitely are cancer cells.
  3. By old age, the number of taste buds on the tongue is reduced to one-third
    of the original number
