[ Conservation ]

An ecosystem is a group of animals living together in a particular place. They coexist and any effect on one can be felt by another. Human, is a part of the general ecosystem and being the most intelligence and greatest in number, we are responsible for the welfare of the ecosystem. When a species dies out, it extincts. In the last 200 years, human have become the most serious threat to animals. By destroying their habitat, or by killing the animals. Humans have already killed off over 300 animals species since 1600! Many more are in serious danger. By the year 2050, scientists fear that as many as half the earth’s plant and animal species could be extinct. Each species is a storehouse of genetic resources. If a plant or animal dies out, its medical or ecological value would never be known! Say there may be a plant that can cure AIDS and because it is extinct, AIDS can never been cured! Indirectly, for every species that extinct, we are one step nearer to extinction ourselves.

[ Pollution ]

Human beings have always dirtied their surroundings. The problem now is that so many more people dirty and spoil our world in many ways. We release gases and smoke into the air. We pour poison into water. We damage soil with chemicals. We drop litter, cover field with concrete, and make a lot of noises. Pollution can make people ill or even kill. Natural disasters such as a volcano eruption can also pollute the air. The effects are tremendous and are already felt - global warming, thinning ozone layer, new diseases. If humans do not wake up in time, it might be well all too late to save Earth by then.

[ How can we save our environment? ]

Animals should be protected and people kept outside. The nature reserves serve to protect wildlife and nature. And therefore there should be more National Parks , Pro-animals pro- nature organization and Nature Reserves. Wildlife trade should also be stopped. Millions of wild animals are trapped and killed to be sold as pets or for their skin. Rhino’s horns can be made into dagger handles, and elephants hunted for the ivory tusks. The people should not promote the purchase of such items, as an indication to protect the animals, leading to a fall in demand and less hunters or poachers will hunt them.

Present measures taken by cities can be implemented in other cities. For example, in Los Angeles all cars must be fitted with catalytic converters, which removes the carbon monoxide and only produces carbon dioxide. Or as in Singapore, promote the use of public transport and discourage use of cars by setting the price of cars high. Some cities have restricted areas, for example, no cars are allowed in the center of Florence, Italy, during daylight. As a individual, we can recycle, reduce and reuse. Recycling, reducing and reusing saves energy and we prevent more Green House Gases to be produce that contributes to global warming. Most importantly, human needs to understand that earth is in danger and we must, at all cost, save her. Only with the correct mindset, we can do our best to save her. Ask not what Mother Earth can do for you, ask what you can do for her now.
