The Calandar System Of Mesopotamian

We all know there are 7 days in one week and 30 (or 31) days in one month. After you have a break on weekends ( Friday & Saturday ), you will have to go to work or attend school again.....It is a very common style of living at present. Sometimes you will get tired of these routine lives.

But have you ever wondered why we had this?

People in Mesopotamia has started using calendar. What they was lunar calendar. They divided one year into 12 months. They make one months become 4 weeks and there are 7 days in one week. They followed the difference of the face of moon evey day to decided one month. They used the name of planet to name the seven days of one week.

  • The god of sun is "Sunday."
  • The god of moon is "Monday."
  • The god of May is "Tuesday."
  • The god of Mercury is "Wednesday."
  • The god of Jupiter is "Thursday."
  • The god of Venus is "Friday."
  • The god of Saturn is "Saturday."
Although those name we wouldn't use any longer, at least there are still 7 days in one week. The Japenese use the simliar name and some name from nature world to represent the 7 days of one week...."Sun" "Gold" "Wood" "Water" "Fire" "Land"....etc.

So amazing, right? We do still have something exsist which is from ancient world. :)
