| Neolothic Age (
8000-3500 B.C ) |
The Neolithic ( New Stone Age ) in Mesopotamia,
lasting from 8000 B.C - 3500B.C. It can be
divided into the following periods:
- Jarmo
Period ( 7000-6500 B.C )
- Hassuna
Period ( 6500-6000 B.C )
- Samarra
Period ( 6000-5500 B.C )
- Halaf
Period ( 5500-4500 B.C )
- Ubaid
Period ( 5000-3500 B.C )

| The Proto-Literate Period (
3500-2900 B.C ) |
Around the middle of 4000 B.C, cities and written
characters appeared in Sumeria, the southern part
of Mesopotamia. Several city-states built by
Sumeria, such as Eridu, Uruk, Nippur, and Kish
were very important in region.In 1928, the German
Oriental Society, led by an eastern scholar named
Theodor Noldeke, unearthed the remains of Uruk.
Numerous temples, items of pottery, and
cylinder-seals were very found.

| Early Dynastic 3rd Period (
2900-2350 B.C ) |
In Early Dynastic 3rd Period, Sargon of Akkad (
2371-2350 B.C ) united Mesopotamia. Many
city-states coexisted in Sumeria during the
period, forming the city-state epoch of the
Sumerian history. The cuneiform writing system
was fully developed.
- According
to archaeologists, Enmebaragesi ( 2700
B.C ) , the river of Kish, was the 1st
great figure of the Early Dynastic---3rd
Period ( 2500-2350 B.C ) . Kish was the
most powerful city-state in the early
days of period.
- Following
the Kish was Uruk, ruled by Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh was made famous in The Epic of
Gilgamesh.
- After Uruk
came another powerful city-state, Ur,
which was celebrated in the Old Testament
as "Ur in Chaldea," the
hometown of Abraham.
- In the
later days of the period, the city-state
called Lagash became powerful and was
extremely prosperous under the king
Eannatum. ( 2450 B.C )
- Lugalzagesi
( 2371 B.C-2347 B.C ) , the king of Umma,
first annexed Uruk and then destroyed
Lagash. He finally settled in Uruk and
become the last ruler in the Early
Dynastic---3rd Period ( 2500-2350 B.C ) .
In the middle of 24th Century B.C, Sargon
conquered Sumer and become the king of
Sumer and Akkad.
