Meaning of "History" |
History
tells us how people overcame thier difficlties
and what achievements people have made for
survival. It includes many subjects: society,
art, politics,economy, military, and the
interaction between culture and culture, etc. But
we cannot observe it very clearly because it has
gone with time after all. Therefore we have to
use some reference like some excavations or any
record of history made by people from past life,
and analyze where they came from, what meaning
they stood for, then we can get some knowledge
from them. What can we find
in"History?" For exmaple, the ancient
Egyptians made a great achivement on medicine --
They knew how to make mummies! It can tell us in
fact dead body can be preserved in that way!
Let's take an another look, perhaps we can
preserve people who got some unknown illness in
some way till it can be treated. So you can see,
"History" is an important and
interesting subject, you can get lots of things
we might have lost from history. Maybe what you
found will be a great achievement for people at
present!! Past can tell us the
answers to questions about the present, and can
help us deduce what will happen in the future.

History is many
ancients' achievements. We can flesh our
knoeleage out, train our thinking ability,
nurture our spirit to aspire after the
"Truth." There are many exmples in
History about how and why a man succeeded or
failed. We can get many experiences from these
example so that we can know how to avoid
repeating a failure and how to make our dreams
come ture.Therefore history is an important
subject in school education to make people become
mature to know what responsibilities he/she
should take in his/her life.
[For one
country or one nationality]
The people can
know how thier ancestries created thier country
-- how they got achievements, hoe they overcame
the difficulties, how they faced the failure, how
they kept thier dreams in mind, how they made
them come ture, and what they have done for thier
descendants...We can carry forward the cause and
forge ahead into the future by learning History.
History is the subject about "Collective
Memory" of one group. It can help the people
get together! So there has a Chinese historian
said: "A country can die, but
the history of the counrty will never die."

[For
all people from all the world]Our nowadyas lif]e came
up with many cultures in past lots of people. If
we want to explore the life in present day, we
have to atart at the life in past! We have to use
the past experiences to dicide what we should
choose to do. :) Not only for oue present, also
for the feature. There have been so many terrible
problems in our world...pollutions, wars,
crimes...Jesus! What a terrile thing we have done
in our life "EARTH!!"
So we have to
predict the future by reviewing the past through
learning ""History!" Especially in
21th world our world has become a SMALL VILIAGE!
We cannot just live in our Utopia; we must have
to get world view in our mind-- Get along with
others who are not only from your location! You
might be going to meet so many people, therefore,
you have to learn how to live with others in a
proper way...then you can get these directions
from "History," right?

do we have to take a look at past? |
"Why do we have to take a look at
past?? " We?e all asked this
question at one time or another?(Usually, about
the day before that big world history test we
forgot to study for!) J Why do we have to
"waste" our time and energy studying
things that happened so long ago?!
We have a lot of
problems in the world today. Famines, wars,
pollution? What can we do? As we probe into
history, we find that we can learn from our past
mistakes. No matter how young or old we are, a
study of history is both rewarding and
profitable.
What would
happen if we were to suddenly lose all the
information our forefathers left to us? They left
us the building blocks to some of our most basic
technological advances. They?e taught us life
lessons. They?e instilled values and principles
for us to pass down from generation to
generation. As we see how our ancestors solved
their historic dilemas, we still find cause and
effect just as appropriate to learn as before. It
does not lose its educational merit with time.
Though the past, we can learn how to get along
with others, how to prevent failure, and make
ourselves more mellow and steady in our
lifetime...just by learning "history."
There is so much
hidden knowledge just waiting for us to dig it
out! History belongs to us and through it, so
does the future!
